ARE YOU READY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
HOW
ABOUT A REAL DIFFERENCE?
The Whats Up Magazine Homeless Empowerment Project has many faces, a
newspaper, an advocacy group, and a Homeless Speakers Bureau. We do a
lot, and all of it is working toward building bridges among the poor, homeless
and the greater community, while engaging the broader public in fighting for
economic justice. By publishing the magazine and mobilizing the public around
poverty issues, Whats Up Magazine organizes, educates and builds
alliances to find community-based solutions to homelessness and poverty. Whats
Up is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.
WHAT
WE DO FOR ST. LOUIS
Whats
Up is
St. Louis' activist publication with an ear to the street. Whats Up
readers are educated, socially-concerned, and loyal. Our publication is sold by
St. Louis' homeless, and helps them earn the money they need to get ahead. Each
month, more than 30 different vendors are out selling our paper throughout the
St. Louis area.
Whats
Up is a hand up, not a handout.
Our
publication strives to create fairness, opportunity and community by covering
issues that socially conscious people want to know about, from topics
surrounding poor and homelessness, to stories about labor, the environment,
public health and civil liberties - just to name a few.

SAFER STREETS:
A CAMPAIGN TO EDUCATE THE HOMELESS
POPULATION ABOUT THEIR CIVIL RIGHTS AND TO TRACK VIOLATIONS OF THESE RIGHTS.
What Up Magazine
launched a campaign to educate the homeless population about their
civil rights and to track violations of these rights. Unfortunately, for too
many, harassment and abuse is not something that comes as a surprise...Help us
protect their civil rights with education.
We are seeking to collect accounts of reported harassment and violation of
homeless persons civil rights. This is our local
effort on behalf of a national campaign by the National Coalition on
Homelessness to track crimes against persons experiencing homelessness. For more
